My First Influence.
Since reading my first novel anthology, The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis as a child, I have wanted to be a published author. Traumatic life experiences in the following years negatively influenced my self-confidence. They caused me to doubt the worth of my writing, so I did nothing with the works of fiction I produced, hiding them from others. Through the years, I’ve written several full-length manuscripts of 50000 words or more, some of which were fanfiction and others original compositions, but I didn’t dare to move beyond writing the first drafts. I never allowed anyone to read my writing until I began writing fanfiction online in the mid-to-late 2000s (more about that in a future blog post).
Writer of Manuscripts, Aspiring Author.
Since then, with experience allowing others to read my work (and some excellent help from my therapist), I’ve proceeded to write six full-length manuscripts, all original fiction under the genres of suspense, thriller, and mystery, most of them Christian. One of those manuscripts has been professionally edited, and I’m preparing query proposals for literary agents.
It’s taken me five years to reach this stage with Ashes of Injustice. That’s the working title. By the time it’s published, the title may change. I won’t give away the story, but here’s a “back cover blurb” I’ve prepared for it:
In 1989, law enforcement declared that Bible college co-ed Maggie Belanger died from suicide. Over thirty years later, unanswered questions and faltering faith compel her fiancé Will Endicott on a dangerous pursuit of the truth involving a serial killer who hides in plain sight. Together with Maggie’s sister Faith, they face life-threatening circumstances and the suspicious deaths of key witnesses in their quest. Will they survive long enough to uncover what truly happened to Maggie and prevent future deaths?
Intent to Publish.
I intend to publish this novel, the first in a trilogy I call the “Ashes Trilogy,” which I have prepared through traditional means or self-publishing. I don’t arrogantly believe my manuscript is perfect, but I’ve had several alpha and beta readers encourage me to publish and distribute it, so I trust their opinions. (I tend to doubt the value of my writing and shy away from allowing others to read it, so I rely on my readers’ views to encourage and embolden me.)
In future blog posts, as publication nears and becomes a reality, I will tease you with more of my manuscript and information concerning how you can obtain a copy of Ashes of Injustice. I will also discuss my writing process, how I developed my trilogy and my progress with other works of fiction I’m working on. So “stay tuned” for more information and spoilers in the future!
Again, thank you for joining me on this blogging journey I’ve undertaken. Please send me your feedback and tell your friends and family about my blog. Have a wonderful week, and God bless!
Pauline
